826 NATIONAL
San Francisco, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, Ann Arbor, and Seattle are among the seven cities where 826 National, a network of youth tutoring and writing centers, is located. The organization's primary goal is to assist kids in grades 6 through 18 with their writing and English proficiency. The organization's initial concept, back in 2002, was to offer one-on-one tutoring to kids who were lagging behind. However, there were some strange detours along the road. These diversions led to designing odd shops that offered even stranger items: space-travel underwear, robot emotions, peg legs, and caveman meals, among hundreds of other semi-useful things characteristic for the given area.
